Hod was born on January 21, 1916 in Davenport, Iowa. He was the son of Nora Glaspell and William Hoffman Sr.. In 1945, when Hod was 29 years of age, he married the love of his life, Emily Weber, in San Francisco, California. They were together for 52 years before Emily passed away after a long struggle with AlzheimerÂ's. By her loving side, Hod never missed one day of visiting Emily while she resided at the Georgian House for several years, where she received ongoing care.During WWII, Hod served his country with the Navy/Marines for three years as a pilot. He flew PBY Catalina Amphibious Aircraft for search and rescue missions to locate downed pilots. He later served in the Army for 23 years until he retired in 1976. Hod moved to Washington in 1960 and planted his stake with Emily at his residence located at 10807 Glenwood Drive in Tacoma.Hod was a fifty year member of the Lakewood-Parkland Masonic Lodge #299, a longtime member of The Shrine, and a member of the Elks Lodge #174.It was HodÂ's love for music that fueled his life and kept his gentle spirit alive. As a member of many bands, he could be found playing gigs at a rate of three per day at the age of 85. Hod was also an avid bird hunter. He and his dog Missy were gone many weekends together chasing down duck, pheasant, grouse and chucker. Hod is survived by ten nephews and nieces and many friends.
