Dear Staving Family,
I am saddened to learn of the death of your dear husband, father, and grandfather. I hired into Siemens in January of 1992 as the Manager of Licensing and Compliance. Bill was the hiring manager for the position and my first boss. I was 41 years old and had been at my first job for 18 years. I only knew one person at Siemens that I was aware of and had a lot of mixed feelings about interviewing for the Siemens job. I had a lunch interview with Bill and his boss, Bob Frain. Bob Frain was somewhat gruff and a little intimidating (a great man, I would come to discover) but Bill was the polar opposite--warm, friendly and engaging. Unlike my erroneous first impression of Bob Frain, my first impression of Bill was right on the mark. He turned out to be a warm, friendly and engaging boss--always kind, attentive and helpful. He truly cared about his people.I just retired from AREVA two years ago and am attending the Exxon/Siemens/AREVA retirees lunch this Friday. I will regret not seeing Bill there. I just wanted you all to know that I cared a great deal about Bill. He was an important man in my life and you have my sincere sympathies.
