Wayne W. West's Obituary
Wayne W. West, 70, peacefully passed into the hands of the Lord on March 24, 2004 surrounded by his loving family. He displayed courage, strength, and a great love for life even during his 3-year battle with cancer. Wayne was born in Garrison, MN, September 4, 1933 along with his twin brother, Wesley, to Nellie M. (Jones) and Oscar E. West. He served in the United States Air Force from Sept. 1952 until Sept. 1960. He joined the Pierce County Sheriff Dept. on January 1, 1961. He worked in traffic, boat patrol, Saturday warrants, car and motorcycle patrol, and excelled in working with the Juvenile Dept. retiring as Detective in 1985. His love for the ocean and adventure sent Wayne and his late wife, retired Captain Anita West TPD, on many voyages sailing their own boat up and down the California-Mexican coast. He was an active member and past Commodore of the Totem Yacht Club. He shared a love of horses with his family and close friends Â"The Over the Hill GangÂ" and members from the Back Country HorsemanÂ's Club.Wayne is preceded in death by his parents Nellie and Oscar West; his late wife, Capt. Anita West; brothers: Shirley Porter, George Porter, Charles Â"ChuckÂ" West, Wesley Â"WesÂ" West; and sister, Mae Wolvert. He is survived by his loving wife Linda, of Fircrest; sons: Scott West (Colleen), of Orting, and Wayne Michael West, of Redmond; daughters: Karen Milton (Glen), of Tacoma, and Teri Frye, of Graham; stepchildren: Eric Johnson, of Tempe, AZ, Troy Johnson of Irvine, CA, and Chrystal De Haro (Daniel), of Lake Stevens; nine grandchildren, and one great granddaughter; sisters: Ilene Froelich (Martin), of Tacoma, and Agnes Glines (Marland), of Sequim; along with several sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.Services will be held at 2pm, Thursday, April 15, 2004 in the Mountain View Valley Chapel. Donations may be made to Multi Care Hospice, 315 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Tacoma, WA 98415.
