VERNON HENRY LEACH's Obituary
Vern was born September 3, 1930 in Camas, WA and passed into eternity on March 18, 2005. A graduate of Camas HS, he earned his Bachelor of Physical Science Degree in 1953 and Masters Degree (through National Science Foundation grants) in 1960 at WA State University. There he met Priscilla Loring and they were married in Okanogan on June 7, 1952. Vern spent 2 years with US Army Occupation Forces in Germany. Then he taught math at Raymond HS for 3 years followed by teaching math at Clover Park HS for 30 years and retired in 1988. Also he taught night school for 34 years for Pierce College at McChord AFB. He much enjoyed attending many high school sports events. In 1988 he won the faculty hoop shoot. Vern and Priscilla enjoyed their travels in Europe, all 50 states, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji.Vern was a dedicated Christian and an active member of Immanuel (Baptist) Celebration Church for 47 years. He was a Deacon Emeritus, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Trustee and in choir. He was a charter member of Immanuel Day Care Board since 1969. His large garden produced vegetables to share. He was an excellent carpenter and built 4 houses with his sons. He was a descendant of Richard Warren on the Mayflower. In 1998 he had a triple bypass. Later he survived 3 rare terminal cancers (myelodysplasia of bone marrow and T-cell lymphomas of liver and spleen) followed by congestive heart failure. Special thanks to Oncologist Dr. David Young and staff at Tacoma General Hospital. Vern was a cherished husband and cared deeply for his family and friends.He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Priscilla; daughter Barbara (Jim) Sherrill of Graham; sons Richard (Dawn) of Mercer Island, Glenn (Michele) of Puyallup, Douglas of Ft. Worth, TX; grandchildren Tia Sherrill, Jana (Nate) Long, Rosemary, Quinn, Raevynn, Ryan, Raschele and great-grandsons Isaac and Kyle Long; brothers Rev. Don (Carolyn), Rev. David (Sandy), Jim (Sue); sister-in-law Jean. He was preceded in death by his parents Reuben and Ruth and brother Harold.Memorial Service led by his 2 Minister brothers will be held at Immanuel Celebration Church, 9244 Pacific Ave. S. in Tacoma on Sunday, March 20, 2005 at 3 p.m. Inurnment will be at Mountain View Memorial Park.
