Tom was born on June 3, 1933 in Genoa, OH to John and Catherine Tillotson. They moved to St. Cloud, MN where he grew up. He graduated from Cathedral High School and joined the Army to serve his country and get a chance to see the world. He was stationed in places like Norway, Paris, Iran, and across the US from Fort Belvoir, VA to Schofield Barracks, HI. His military decorations include the National Defense Service Ribbon, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 2 oak leaf Clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Commendation Medal with V Device, and 2 overseas Bars.
He met Tomiko while stationed at Fort Lewis and they were married in Oslo, Norway. He proudly retired as a Master Sergeant after 26 years of service. Tom also worked at BECU as the Supplies and services manager and retired after 16 years. He was very proud of his children’s education with Marc reaching a Doctor of Chiropractic and Nola earning a Master of Arts in Teaching.
Tom enjoyed retirement, spending time with family and friends, and travelling with Tomiko. He enjoyed being a member of the Lions club, giving back to the community while his health allowed. He also liked to read, solve crossword puzzles, and do artwork - painting and Japanese Bunka needlepoint embroidery.
His family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Madigan Army Medical Center, American Lake Veterans Hospital and the Seattle Veterans Hospital for their exemplary care. We appreciate all that you did for him.
By his wishes, Tom will be remembered at a private graveside service. Remembrances may be shared on the tribute wall.
