Thomas Michael Flanders' Obituary
Thomas Michael Flanders Sunrise 11-8-1954 Sunset 3-5-2007 No one truly knows how much time they have on Earth, but it,'s what you,'ve done with that time that counts. Thomas Flanders, otherwise known as Mike, accomplished so much in the time he was given. Mike was born and raised in Cordele, Georgia. The son of Dora Shell and Johnnie Flanders, Mike worked as soon as he was able to help support his family, and that hard work and dedication to family continued when he married Sung Hui on May 16, 1977. Together, they raised two children, their son John Michael Flanders, and a daughter Teresa Marie Flanders Potter. Through his children, he became a grandfather 5 times over. Tesa Madrid, John Thomas Flanders, Kari and Sara Flanders, and the soon to be born Mari Anne Potter will be able to remember their grandfather through pictures and stories, and know that they were loved. Mike is also survived by a brother, Danny Flanders and two sisters, Diane Shivick, and Lorrie Steiner, and many nieces and nephews. Also his extended family, which spent endless hours comforting him during his illness in his last days, and his many friends that visited daily in his hour of need. He has been a wonderful member of the community, serving in the Army for a dedicated 20 years, a Tae Kwon Do 4th degree black belt, a self defense Master instructor, and an activities director for 10 years. Mike was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a Brother in the Masonic Order, and an Eagle Scout. There were many a time, that he not only put his time and resources to good use, but he donated the money he earned through being a DJ to organizations that helped mothers in need, such as Our Lady of Guadalupe maternity center. Mike has touched the lives of so many, and will be missed by all that knew him. There are those who will never know that because of his efforts, hard work and sacrifices, that their lives were made easier, and for that we thank him.
