THERESA “TERRY” ROY
Our beloved mother, Terry Roy, 80, of Lakewood, WA passed away peacefully July 20, 2016. Born July 16, 1936 in New York, Terry is survived by her daughters Robin, ToniAnn (Karl) and son Robert (Kristi) and five grandsons, Sean, Kyle, Ryan, Nicholas (Chrissy) and Erik. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sr, her parents, Joseph and Olga DeCatrino and three sisters, Rose, Gloria and Dolores. Terry moved from NY to WA in 1974 and although her accent never left her, she was a true Washingtonian. Terry worked at the Lakewood Water District for 25 years and retired in 1996. In retirement, Terry was an active volunteer with Lakewood Police Department, LASA (Lakewood Area Shelter Associates), USO (United Service Organizations), Catholic Daughters and numerous other organizations.
Terry was very proud of her Italian heritage and relished being called “Titzi” (Aunt) by all her nieces, and nephews. Terry’s Italian heritage tied in nicely with her obsession with feeding people. If she met you, she probably invited you over for a meal. The amount of people she fed was astronomical, because she was happiest when she had a table full of people and food. Terry was also passionate about giving and she believed in paying it forward and spent her life donating her time, talents and whatever money she had.
Terry was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Frances Cabrini since moving to WA. Her children liked to attend mass once a week, and were in awe of her commitment to attending daily if she could. Her faith experience was highlighted by her pilgrimage to the Vatican where she attended mass with Pope John Paul II. Terry also received great joy going to Fatima in Portugal and participating in The Walk to Emmaus.
Terry will be missed dearly by all her family, but she also will be missed by her many friends that she met for breakfasts, lunches, bible study, game nights, ladies groups, and dare we say anyone to share a glass of wine! To all her friends and family, although we will miss her here on earth, we know she is in a better place with no pain.
The funeral mass will be held at St. Frances Cabrini on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with graveside service and reception immediately following at 3:30 and 4:00 respectively at Mountain View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to LASA, P.O. Box 98619 Lakewood, WA 98496.
