My heart is with all of the Kusander family. Steven loved each and every one of you so very much. He loved all of his nieces and nephews dearly. His son. He took such joy in talking with me about you all, the stories. Thank you all for loving him so much. All the laughter. All the love. He adored each and every one of you. Especially his dear Mama. Loved his Mama's cooking and helping in her yard. Bringing her tea. Her boy, forever. I wish I could take your pain away. I know you will keep him close in your hearts. He lives on in all of you.
My darling Kusander's. I love you so much. You know that. I'm holding you close in my arms. I know Steven would want you all to find a way to feel happy again. Be happy loving each other. That's what he would want. Hold each other up. Remember.

So many special memories from the past fifteen years on Herron Island... I will think of you when I make apple pie this Fall...and every year to come. I'll set aside a slice for you. We miss you, Steve.
I first meet you on the beach when you were fishing and I was pregnant with Flame. You were always kind, laughing and helpful. I will always remember you like the painting I painted for you, you fishing on Herron island in the sunset. It was a pleasure being your friend. May the good Lord hold you and your family in his loving arms and give you peace and comfort.
I will never forget your refusal to talk to me for two weeks after the Seahawks beat your Raiders 35-0 on Monday night football!! You wouldn't answer my phone calls and avoided me at all costs. I will miss you Steve, I have 30 years of memories and I am very grateful for them. R.I.P. Steve.
When we were first getting acquainted with Herron Island, before we bought our little slice of heaven on the east side of the island, we met Steve (Whiskey) at north beach. He was getting the fire pit ready for an evening fire. He was so warm and welcoming, answered many of our questions, and offered to help us in any way. He was a wealth of information.
It was a joy to meet him and visit with him. His friendly spirit will live on on Herron Island, the embodiment of Herron's friendly, caring, helping community. Prayers for those who mourn him deeply. May your many memories bring you comfort. His legacy lives on.
