SSgt David M. Gartland USMC, Retired's Obituary
David was born on May 12, 1940 in Boston, MA to John P. and Mary F. (Fife) Gartland. David is preceded in death by his sister Meg Roofe and his parents. David was raised in Holbrook and went on to graduate from Holbrook High School. He worked in the Navy Shipyard in Boston and then went on to join the Marine Corps on November 1959. He served until April 1977 when he was medically retired.
David did his training at PLT 104 “C” Co, 1st RTBN MCRD PISC and Camp Lejeune Service Co Hos BN MCB Camp Lejeune, NC. He retired from Marine Wing Headquarters MW HS3-VMFP3 MCAS El Toro, CA. David did two tours in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966 and again from 1969 to 1970.
He married Nancy on February 1, 1969 at the Chapel in the Woods in Norfolk, VA.
David passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord, with his loving wife of 45 years Nancy and his 3 sons Christopher, David (Beverly), Raymond (Jennifer); two step-children Lynn (Harvey) C. Maas and Douglas L. (Christine) Charles; brother Peter (Carol) G. Gartland.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Friday, July 25, 2014 at Mountain View Funeral Home Valley Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday from 10am to 8pm at the Funeral Home.
