Sidney Avery Hyde's Obituary
USAF MSGT (Ret) Sidney A. (Avery) Hyde September 19, 1931-May 16, 2017 Age 85, Avery was born in Philadelphia, PA, as an only child. In 1950 he joined the Air Force and served for nearly 27 years, first as a radio operator, and then as a loadmaster. On June 16, 1951, Avery married Lois Jeanne Herson a marriage that lasted more than 50 years until her passing in 2002. Avery's Air Force career took him to many bases in the U.S., including ones in Mississippi, Tennessee, North Carolina, Texas, Alaska, and Washington. Avery served in both Korea and the Viet Nam War. In 1976 Avery retired from McChord Air Force Base. Following his retirement Avery fulfilled his passion and dream when he opened an antique shop with Lois and his mother, owned a wood stove shop, and worked at the Fort Lewis Commissary for several years. Avery was preceded in death by Lois, and his parents Arthur Sidney Hyde and Nancy Haggard Hyde. He is survived by his three sons and their wives, Larry and Melinda, Randy and Heidi, and John and Debbie, in addition to 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. A memorial service to honor Avery, followed by full military honors and reception, will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood on June 24, 2017 at 2:00 PM.
