Servando Garcia Davila's Obituary
On the evening of March 14, 2005 the final chapter of a classic American tale closed with the passing of Servando Â"SamÂ" Garcia Davila after a courageous battle with cancer. What greater tribute can a man receive than to have four generations of his family comfort and care for him through his final hours?American born in 1922, to immigrant parents, the story of his life reads like a novel.Growing up in southern California, he learned the true value of respectful stewardship of the land and animals through farming, fishing and hunting.Starting in 1942, as a patriot protecting our freedom, he served his country for over 27 years in two branches of the military and through three wars. The love of his life Mary, his wife of 51 years whom he met while in the hospital when she was a Navy nurse, came into his life and completed his life providing him loving care.In 1968, after traveling the world he returned with his family to Lakewood, WA where he filled out the rest of his life. He shared with all of us his love of the outdoors, of the land and all animals. Each of us carries and cherishes a different gift from him and his legacy endures through our lives. His wife, eight sons and daughters and their spouses, twenty grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two brothers and a sister survive him.An evening vigil/rosary service to celebrate SamÂ's life will be held 6 PM, March 20 and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9 AM, March 21, both at St Francis Cabrini Catholic Church. Burial service will be at 11:30 AM on the same day at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the cancer research of your choice.
