Ruth E Benson's Obituary
Ruth Elizabeth Moe Benson was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1916 to Norwegian immigrant parents, Alfred Moe and Josefine Wolff Moe. The family moved to Tacoma in 1920 and she grew up on McKinley Hill. She moved to Fircrest in 1946 where she resided till her death on April 8, 2014.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Benson, her brothers Alf Moe and Otto Moe, her daughter Barbara Tollefson, and a grandson David Idso. She is survived by her daughters Joan (Leonard) Idso and Carolyn Benson and her son Gary (Mimi) Benson. There are also seven grandsons, a granddaughter, and five great-grandchildren.
Ruth was 60-plus year member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fircrest where she had many good friends. She also was a regular for decades at the “Y” on 12th Street where she enjoyed the good company, the pool, and the hot tub. She was an independent woman, proud of her Norwegian heritage, and enjoyed a long, good life. She especially loved sewing, knitting and baking. Her hot-dish and cinnamon rolls will be long remembered.
