Russell Rupert Nelson's Obituary
Russ was born December 20, 1919 and passed away on August 5, 2010. Russell was born in Tacoma and lived his entire life in South Tacoma. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938 and joined the Army Air Force a short while later, serving his country for a little over five years and until the end of World War II. Upon returning to Tacoma, he started his career in the auto body and paint profession. This career lasted 50-plus years but only spanned two employers, McCallum's Auto body and Tom Carsten's Autohaus. Russ belonged to the Tacoma Elks. He enjoyed boating, fishing and playing cards. Russ was preceded in death by his parents and youngest brother Reuben. He is survived by his loving wife Mary (Marie) of 64 years, sons David and Eldon, granddaughter Leslie, grandsons John David (Allison), and Jason Russell (Ruth), and great-grandsons Cameron and Connor. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but we all know that he is now fishing with his many long-time pals. We just hope that Russ and Walt will give some sympathy to Reuben Jr., Charley, Larry, Norm, and Bud so they will occasionally get to win a first fish, most fish, or largest fish bet. God be with you all. There will not be any services for Russ as this was his wish. He stated he would prefer everyone just take a minute and think of the many fun times they had together. He felt there's no place for sorrow when he was granted 90-plus years of a wonderful life.
