Love me some uncle Clint! Just visited in Sep and he showed us a good time. Love you uncle!
I first met Rube in 1991 when I transferred to the Seattle Office of Investigations. Rube was getting ready to retire and he trained me and showed me the ropes as I was going to be covering the area he worked for years. I recall picking him up at his home and meeting his wife who would wave to us as we drove off. He was a quiet man and a very well respected person in the eyes of all the people he introduced me to. He was instrumental in my training as he showed me all I needed to know and who I needed to connect with in order to succeed in my job. He was a very nice man and well liked by all the people whose lives he touched. And he wore hats well :). Condolences to his family he left behind. Love, MaryBeth Andersen
Our sincerest sympathy to Ann and Brenda.
Rube was our good friend and colleague for 35 years. We were first co-workers at the US Office of Federal Investigations, then I became the Supervisory Investigator, and subsequently at Fort Lewis and Camp Murray. Throughout the years he was my friend, confidant and advisor. He was always a thoughtful, ethical and caring person who could always be relied upon to do his duty. He cared deeply about his family, friends, Country and the US Army. It is notable that when the Executive Branch of the US Government chose to marginalize security clearances (at which time both Rube and I were both questioning our career choice); he kept the faith and dedication to his Country's ideal.
It should also be stated that Rube was a highly decorated, widely respected soldier who served two tours in Viet Nam. He was scheduled for a third tour, which would have undoubtedly meant a promotion to Sergeant Major, but he elected to retire for the sake of the family. Even then, the Army optempo was taking it's toll on soldiers.
I'm sum, Rube Woodard's life was a life well lived.

I knew Rube for 40 years, the first 20 of those years as an investigations coworker in the Seattle office. During that time, I also got to know his lovely family - his wife Miki and daughters Brenda and Ann. Over the last 20 years, I have kept in contact with Rube through occasional phone calls, lunch or visits maybe once or twice a year, and exchange of Christmas cards.
I had a nice long phone conversation with Rube in late November, so it was heart wrenching to get a call from his daughter just several days later that he was in the hospital. Thankfully, I was able to visit him there a couple of weeks before he passed. I considered Rube a dear friend.
His dignity and unquestionable character & integrity showed in how he conducted himself and how he treated others with the utmost respect and kindness. He had a certain kind of restraint that was charming. Sometimes, for example, rather than bluntly expressing a negative sentiment, a half-smile would cross his face and he would look down at the ground and give a little chuckle. You could tell he wanted to say something, but he didn't. I think he did that because he was sensitive to others and careful not to hurt anyone's feelings.
You could always rely on Rube and trust him completely. He was as good as gold, and so were his words. He did not take things for granted and took great care in all he did. This showed in his loving family life, the support he provided for those in need within his congregation, and also in the beautiful flower garden he tended at his home. A number of years ago, he dug up some raspberry plants from his home garden and planted them for me in my backyard. I now enjoy a bumper crop of plump juicy raspberries every Summer, thanks to Rube and his green thumb. Rube was a true gentleman, and he will forever remain alive in my heart and memory.
