Ronald (Ron) Alvin Ferch passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at the age of 81 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Washington. He was born in Tacoma, Washington, on August 19, 1937, and grew up in Puyallup, Washington. He Read Obituary
I met Ron in the 90s, he and Rose were neighbors of my folks in Packwood. The first time I met him he was riding a horse along the edge of the Cowlitz sending a huge rooster tail of water behind him and I thought "who is this John Wayne character"? I went skiing with him a couple of times at White Pass and he was one of the best skiers I had ever seen. He was one of the nicest men I have ever met and one of the biggest personalities as well. Ron was a great man and I am glad I got to know him. I don't get out to Packwood too often anymore but some of my best memories are of visiting with Ron and Rosie. I will miss you Ron and Rosie you are in our thoughts.

I first met Ron when he started building his place along the Cowlitz River near Packwood. I have to say that my first impression was that the neighborhood would not be the same. And it never was--it became a better place. Ron was instrumental in bringing our little Baker Road neighborhood to life. To be sure, Ron and I had our differences but as time went on, we each realized that we owned a similar piece of paradise along the Cowlitz and that we had more in common than not. When I was building my gypsy wagon he would come over and laugh, wondering out loud, "what the hell are you making?" But then he decided it needed some CVG fir plywood that his father had made in the 40's. More than once he rescued those sheets when they floated away in various floods. The plywood developed a beautiful patina over the years and now graces the inside walls of the gypsy wagon.Thanks for the wood, Ron; thanks for the jokes; and thanks for the friendship.
Ron would often speak of friends who had died and he always told them he'd throw a rock in some body of water that was important in their friendship. For me, it was the Cowlitz that connected us. I'll throw a rock in the river for you my friend.

Ron and I first met in about 1967. He was brash, funny and smart, even then. Who would have thought that years later He, Rosie, Bud and I would end up living in Packwood, that beautiful little town with such great people. I think we all blended in quite well, especially Ron. He always made me laugh, even if we disagreed, once in awhile. To think we won’t meet again, on this earth, makes me said. You’re in a better place, Ron. I hope the skiings great!

Memories.. So many..I was new in town 1990 at the Hardware store..Ron had bought a new weed eater and had it laid out trying to figure it out... He looked at me and cracked up and I did too...That was our first introduction...He was so nice and friendly.. His personality was unbelievable and contagious...
We became friends-he, Rosie and me..I fell I love with their two beautiful shephards and I started house and dog sitting.. I had two more friends then in the Ferch family and loved every minute of it
When the snow flew-Ron always checked to see if I needed help with anything.. I can't really sum up who Ronnie was in a few words--he was great, funny,smart ,smart a__ and a superb joke teller and I loved him and will miss him muchly !! Sleep well funny face..Little Rena
Ron was my mentor he helped me to do what I spend 30 years trying to do before we met he made it possible for me to get much more out of my life.
We where so much alike and I will miss him very much.

I treasure those 17 years of good Packwood memories. He was a kind and caring man, available to help anyone, and he did just that. Ron will be missed, but the memories remain! Ron always asked that his name be shouted from the top of the mountain when he learned that I was going skiing. Rest in peace my friend, I will always call your name from the top!

Ron had to be one of the all time best story tellers I've known. His stories were humorous and no one enjoyed them more than he did. He was a real gentleman and I'll miss his many visits to our office. RIP my friend!
