Roberta Reawn Peck's Obituary
Roberta Reawn Peck, 82, passed away September 26, 2003. Roberta was born June 16, 1921, in Valier, Illinois, to Fitzhugh Overturf and Icymay Connor. Part of her childhood was spent with her great grandparents Grandpap and Grandmother Connor, Uncle Bud and Aunt Molly Rentfro and her cousin Mary Eursel Rentfro. She was raised by Icymay and her step-father, Fred Meek and would proudly say she was a coal minerÂ's daughter. She is preceded in death by her husband Paul Mason Peck. After high school RobertaÂ's family moved to Tacoma. She attended business school and was a receptionist at a local business. Roberta went on a blind date with church friends where she met Paul Mason Peck, a young soldier from Fort Lewis. Thirteen days later they were married. Except for a three year separation due to World War II, they were together almost 60 years. Roberta is best remembered for her cooking skills, baking Christmas cookies, camping, her love of the ocean, the Mariner, Sonics, and her collections of Teddy Bears. She was active in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, where she was known as Â"Grandma BertieÂ". A life time member of the Church of Christ, she took pleasure and comfort from the numerous friendships she had formed there.A Parkland resident for over 53 years, she is survived by sons, Bill Peck (Donna) and Bob Peck (Tina Slaughter), grandchildren, Christopher Peck (Kelly), Courtney Bruce(Michael), David Peck, Brenda Dixon (Jack), Shane Peck (Ryanna), Deena Canon (John), and Aaron Davis (Julie), great-grandchildren Connor and Alexander Peck, Taylor Bruce, Ashley Gibson, Garrett and Jaren Peck, Gray Meissberger, Natashia and Kyle Davis, brother Stanley Meek (Virginia), sister Nadine Schultz (Bill), and nieces Linda, Terry and Chrissy, aunts Fern Miller and Mildred Moreau, and numerous cousins. A special thank you to Franciscan Hospice, their devotion to the comfort of the patient and the support of the family cannot be measured in words; to Kathie McCormack for going beyond her service to become a dear friend; to Betty Blair for the love and hair styles you gave Roberta; and to the neighbors of 110th St. and Yakima who went out of their way to take care of Â"Mrs. PeckÂ".A viewing will be held on Monday, September 29, 2003 at Mt. View Funeral Home from 11am-9pm. Services will be on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at 1:00 PM in the Mt. View Garden Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Teddy Bears be taken to a neighborhood fire or police departments or brought to the service for the distribution in RobertaÂ's memory.
