Robert Richard Shaffer's Obituary
Bob was born January 22, 1925 in Tacoma, Washington, the eldest of four children of Merle F. and Florence M. Shaffer (Vessey). We lost him on June 26, 2007 after a 3-year battle with cancer. He was retired and a member of Local 76, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (61 years) and the National Electrical Contractors Association, Southwest Washington Chapter. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Puyallup Aerie 2308. He attended and graduated from the education system in Miles City, Montana and the U.S. Maritime Cadet School in Santa Catalina Island, California. He served in the U.S. Navy as an Electricians Mate in World War II and was a member of the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association, North Pacific Chapter and National Association. Bob is leaving his best friend and love, Mary M. Vincent, four children, Lynda L. Stirrat of Tacoma, Gloria G. Winkles of Longview, Texas, Richard R. Shaffer of Tacoma, Bruce B. Shaffer of Puyallup, Mary's two daughters, Cindy M. Christensen of Portland, Oregon, Patrice R. Adams of Des Moines, Washington, two brothers, Jack E. Shaffer of Montesano, Washington, Jim J. Shaffer of Elma, Washington, and sister Beverly A. Sellers of Seattle, Washington, with a second family, brother Melvin Shaffer of Sumner, Washington and sister Diane Seale of Rohnert Park, California. He also is leaving behind an extended family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends and the "ROMEOS." He touched many lives and those that knew him will always cherish the time they shared with him and the positive influence he had in their lives...Bob will be deeply missed! Bob has requested that any memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice, with memories. Burial will be provided by the U.S. Navy at Sea.
