Robert L. Yerbury's Obituary
Robert L. "Bob" Yerbury
1924-2011
Bob was born in Tacoma on Aug. 12, 1924, and died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Oct. 31, 2011 at age 87. Bob was the fifth child of Alfred A. Yerbury and Dora Wohlmacher, early residents of Old Town. Bob was raised on McKinley Hill and attended Lincoln High School, as did all four of his sons. He proudly joined the Coast Guard and served from 1943-1945, nearly all in the Aleutian Islands. However, his best decision was when he married Wanda Blake on June 17, 1945. They enjoyed over 66 wonderful years. In 1947 he began his next career with the Tacoma Police Department. After over twenty-six years of service, he retired from the Department as an investigator. The last four years he proudly served with his oldest son Bob, who remains with the Department today. Without exception, of the many activities Bob enjoyed, none were greater than the joy of his family. He is survived by his wife Wanda, four sons, Robert (Kawyne), Tom (Donna), Ralph 'Rick' (Carole), and Alfred 'Rocky.' He is also survived by six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces Nancy Thomas and family, of Buffalo, NY, Michelle Griffin and family, of Puyallup, WA, and a nephew, Mike (Linda) Kelly, of Clarkston, WA. Bob and Wanda were blessed with many dear friends, some of whom have already passed on, but of those still with us, Wanda and family would like to thank them for their continued love and support over the years. Lastly, the family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Mark Brooks for his years of exceptional care, Russ Guppy of Tacoma Police Chaplaincy, and also the Hospice Support Group for their recent and invaluable assistance. Viewing will be Thurs 11/3 10am-9pm. Service will be held Fri 11/4 at 2pm at Mountain View in the Valley Chapel. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home.
