Robert "Bob" Hughes' Obituary
Robert “Bob” Hughes, 74, passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on July 23, 2022, in Tacoma, Washington.
Robert was born in Tampa, Florida to Clyde and Eunice Armeta (Bailey) on November 5, 1947.He joined the Army at 18 years old and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War where he worked as a helicopter mechanic. He did have some fond memories of Germany; the cheap beer and bratwursts were his favorite stories to tell the grandkids. Bob was eventually stationed at Ft. Lewis in Tacoma, Washington. This is where he met Cindy (Marsh). After a brief courtship, they were married on November 7, 1968. With three years of service under his belt, Bob was honorably discharged in December 1968.
Bob went on to work as a millwright for Boise Cascade Paper Mill (later known as Abitibi Consolidated) in Steilacoom, Washington for 30 years until its closure. He then went on to perform auto-lockout service where he consistently received excellent reviews from customers.
Bob was an avid fisherman and was always planning his next fishing trip. His favorite place was on his boat, especially fishing in Commencement Bay or near Sekiu, Washington. His favorite fishing partners were his father-in-law Jim, his kids, and later his grandkids, but he would happily take anybody that wanted to go.
Robert is preceded in death by his mother, Eunice “Armeta” Hughes, father, Clyde Hughes. Robert is survived by his three brothers; Phillip, Johnny, and Donny who all still live in the south. He missed them all and wished he could have visited more often. He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Cindy; three children, Tina (Frank) Burns, Ken Hughes, and Angela Hughes. Bob loved being called Papa! His grandchildren Kaitlyn, Colvin, Steven, Aaron, Amileigh and Lucas will miss him dearly. Papa became a Great-Papa this spring. He was extremely excited to meet and spend time with his great-grandson, Harvey, before his passing.
