Robert Bates Harris' Obituary
Robert went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer. Robert was a founding member of Tacoma Christian Center. He was Chairman of the Deacon Board from the start of the ministry in 1985. He trained many men in the calling and the roll of the Deacon. He served on the Board of Directors, the highest form of government at T.C.C.. He was involved in the key decisions that provided the growth and success of this ministry that started with nine people. Deacon Robert was Pastor Harris’ right hand man & was always at his Pastor’s side. He was in charge of the Men’s Fellowship and led the men of T.C.C. for the past 30 years. Robert was also part of pastor’s Leadership team. Robert was a fixture in the Shield of Faith School of Ministry. Members loved taking his classes which included Before & After Creation, Life & Times of King David and the famous Revelations. He is greatly beloved by the members of Tacoma Christian Center.
Robert worked for Century Link in telecommunications and retired after 41 years of service. He enjoyed traveling with his family and spending time with his granddaughter, LaLauna. Robert was a man of love to all his nephews, nieces and supported them in their accomplishments.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Kathleen, sons: Christopher (Katie), David (Laura), Bobby & Steven. Granddaughter, LaLauna. Parents: Clarence & Thelma Harris, Sisters: Genie, Arnetta, Marilyn; Brothers: Clancy, Terry, Anthony; father & mother-in-law: William & Shigeko Berens, brother-in-laws: Bill & John Berens. Many aunts, uncles, nephews & nieces along with close family friends.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 2, 2015 - 1:00pm at Tacoma Christian Center, 3507 McKinley Ave – Tacoma, WA 98404
