Richard W. Lawson's Obituary
Dick went to be with the Lord on Saturday April 5, 2003 after a courageous 2 1/2 years battle with cancer. He was born on January 22, 1944, in Olympia, WA. and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1961. He is survived by his wife Connie, sons Dennis (Brenda), Dan (Kelli) and grandchildren Kyle, Megan, Olivia and Derek, father John W. Lawson (Joan), stepfather Robert M. Brown, mother-in-law Louise Casey, sisters Sharyl Sherman (Al Taylor), Randi Hutchens (Toney), Beth Santiago (Hector) and several other family members. He also leaves behind his good friend Kerry Keely and two K9 companions Chelsie and Oliver. Dick was preceded in death by his mother Randi Laura Brown.Dick proudly joined the Tacoma Fire Department in 1969. where he spent the first part of his career on Truck 2. In 1982 he was promoted to the position of Inspector and in 1993 he became Deputy Fire Marshal where he served until his retirement in 1997. He enjoyed his time with the Fire Department and was glad to have made improvements in the areas of code enforcement, public education and life safety. He was honored to have served the citizens of Tacoma. The friends he made throughout his career were a source of strength and were cherished to the end. After his retirement from the fire department he spent time as a Course Marshal at Allenmore Golf Course.Dick enjoyed traveling, golfing and walking with family and friends. Recent travels included vacationing in Kauai, Palm Springs attending the World Series and golfing at Pebble Beach. Dick placed family and friends first and lived life to the fullest. The family would like to thank Dr. Chris Chen and the Oncology staff at Tacoma General Hospital and Multi-Care Hospice especially Tina, Edith, Susan and Kristin.A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 14, 2003 at Central Baptist Church: 5000 67th Ave West, University Place, WA 98467.
