Dick went to be with the Lord on Saturday April 5, 2003 after a courageous 2 1/2 years battle with cancer. He was born on January 22, 1944, in Olympia, WA. and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1961. He is survived by his wife Read Obituary

Our prayers are with the family and friends of Dick. I am thankful I had the chance to visit with him during Mom and Dads 50th anniversity. We had great times when we visited on the coast and when the families got together in Cheney. Two summers ago after Dick was diagnosed with cancer we had a very long talk on the way back from Mt St Helens, he was at peace even then and was happy he got the chance to say good bye to everyone. He taught me to live each day like it is your last, enjoy life, and not to work so many hours! Hector will miss the summer baseball games, but I will miss the talks on the phone and the emails. When I think of Dick I think of the summers you all came over to Cheney and the summers we came to visit you...he seemed so 'old'!!! And such a handsome kid, too!!! The thing that always comes to my mind though is the summer you all were visiting and your mom hung the laundry out on the line...and one item was Dick's NEW jock strap!!! I had never seen one and had no idea what it was. I think Sharyl enlightened me. I began to tease and tease Dick about his 'boy girdle'...until I had gone too far and got in trouble! My mom and yours was not happy! After that I always thought of that when I saw Dick and was always a bit embarrassed (even at Mom and Dad's 50th anniversary!). I know he probably forgot about that LONG ago.
He will be missed...may he rest in peace...I know Laura was there to meet him.

We know just how very special Dick was to everyone that knew him. He had a wonderful spirit, and he had a way of making everyone that knew him feel like family.

Dick you are my big brother and I will miss you forever. I have 51 years of memories either my own or from retold stories. You loved me, teased me and watched over me as only a big brother can. Remember the time you swung your jacket and cut my eye causing me to have 5 stitches. Oh how I milked that from you. The teasing I got the first time you realized I was wearing a bra. I cried and you just laughed. I will miss the funny stories you emailed and just those big brother hugs. I love you Dick. I am so sorry to hear of Dick's passing. Please accept my deepest sympathy.
I so enjoyed visiting with Dick just 6 months ago at the memorial for Chuck. It was good to see old friends & hear about their lives. Dick seemed his usual happy self that I will always remember. He mentioned what he was battling but he seemed content with himself.
Knowing Dick had a good life, a great wife & marriage, kids & grandkids, gives me comfort. I hope your memories will also give you comfort & support from those who care.
