Rev. Einar G.'s Obituary
Born in Tacoma, WA on Nov. 18, 1912 to Ingvald and Assta Peterson, who immigrated from Norway, and went home to his Heavenly Father on Nov. 5, 2004. Einar worked at St. Paul Lumber Yard during the depression and saved enough money to attend his first year of Bible College in Springfield, MO, when he met his wife Rachel. He paid the rest of college by waiting on tables and milking cows. It was during this time that the neighbors learned about a Â"preacherÂ" working on a nearby farm, and talked him into conducting services on Saturday nights. The services initially were held under a huge oak tree, using a lantern on a branch and eventually became an Assembly of God congregation located just off U.S. 44. He later graduated as class valedictorian and class speaker. After graduation Einar and Rachel went to Cuba in 1941 as Assembly of God Missionaries and started churches at Palma Soriano, and Holguin. After Fidel Castro banned Americans in Cuba they moved to the Dominican Republic as administrators at the Bible School in Santo Domingo. After their retirement they started the Spanish services at Life Center. Einar was preceded in death by his parents, brother Arne, sisters Agnes and Eva. He is survived by Rachel, his wife of 68 years; sister Lila Apeland (Toby) and children Lois Ulvin (Adrian), Paul, Evelyn Goss (Jerry), Larry (Kristene) and Vern (Jean); 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 9, from 11:00AM Â- 9:00PM and November 10, from 8-11:30AM at Mt. View Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at 11:30 at Mt. View Memorial Park and memorial services at 2:30 at Life Center Gray Chapel, 19th & Union. Memorials may be made to Life Center Missions.
