Oliver James Edwards' Obituary
Oliver James Edwards, a beloved husband, father, brother and friend, passed away at his home in University Place, WA on July 8, 2005. Oliver was born January 31, 1952 in Bluffton, South Carolina to the late Estella and John Henry Edwards. He graduated from Michael C. Riley High School in Bluffton, South Carolina in 1970 and enlisted in the United States Army, which would bring him and his wife to Washington. Oliver retired from the United States Army in 1981 and later received a degree in Computer Science from Pierce College. After retirement from the Army, he was employed and later retired from the American Lake VA Hospital in Tacoma, WA.Oliver married his wife of 28 years, Mary, on July 2nd, 1977 in Beaufort, South Carolina. Their union was filled with love, caring and support of each other. They were blessed with one daughter, Malaika, who was the joy of his life. She was truly daddyÂ's little girl.OliverÂ's retirement years remained very active. He loved to cook, garden, golf and fish. In his last major endeavor, he took classes to become a floral designer at Clover Park Technical College.Oliver was a strong and dedicated family man. To his friends, he was a man of his word and generous to all.He is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Malaika; close family friend Billie Carter, and numerous family and friends.Viewing will be held from 1p-8p on Tuesday at Mountain View Funeral Home. Services will be held on July 15, 2005 at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Bluffton, South Carolina.
