Nanette Bullock's Obituary
Nanette M. Bullock was born January 11, 1944, in Union, MS to RC and Annie Brazel. Soon after birth, Nanette and her parents moved to Tacoma, WA to establish Brazel family roots.
As a child, Nanette became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she sang in the Junior Choir. She continued her service in Bethlehem working with the New Members Ministry and Youth Ministry. Nanette served in her community as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Tacoma Alumnae Chapter and Blacks in Government.
Nanette was the first in a long legacy of Washington State University (WSU) graduates in the family. She graduated from WSU in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in Education. She went on the complete her master’s degree in Administrative Education from Central Washington University in 1983. In 1967, she began her education career by teaching special education in the Tacoma School District, Clover Park School District and North Thurston School District. She retired from the North Thurston School District as the first co-principal of River Ridge High School in 1993. Throughout her educational journey, Nanette received many awards and honors, including a three-time recipient of “Teacher of the Year” for her service and leadership in education. She continued to use her skills after retirement, working with the Office of the Superintend and Instruction where she mentored new principals and assisted schools in meeting state standards. She could also be found instructing future teachers and administrators at Pacific Lutheran University and Seattle University.
In her spare time, Nanette loved to hit the road with her husband Charles, in their R.V. exploring the United States. They could often be found nestled in an R.V. park with the “Funseekers,” enjoying family, friends, and cookouts.
Nanette leaves behind her husband Charles, sons Derrick and Darryl (Terilyn) and granddaughters Deia and Tally who will cherish her memory. She also leaves behind her younger siblings, Rolly Brazel (Donna), Pamela Wallace (Michael) and Richard Brazel (Mary). Nanette has a host of nieces and nephews scattered throughout Washington, North Carolina, and Arizona who will miss her dearly.
God greeted Nanette M. Bullock at the Pearly Gates on January 8, 2020. She joined family who preceded her, including her parents RC and Annie Brazel, her uncle Willie Jordan, her nieces Rochelle Brazel and Deia Peters.
