Mutsumi Spencer's Obituary
Mutsumi Spencer, much loved by family and friends, passed away peacefully at her home in Lakewood Washington, on April 11, 2023 at the age of 95.
Mutsumi, the eldest of nine children, was born in Tokyo, Japan to Tsuchiya and Hana Irie on January 16, 1928. Mutsumi came to America after her marriage to William Spencer, an American soldier stationed in Tokyo, Japan, in 1953.
Mutsumi traveled to the United States, Germany, and Okinawa before settling down in the state of Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, her daughter, Carolyn Ryan-Clark brother Michinobu Irie and sister Terumi Irie. Her surviving relatives include her sons, William Jr, Andrew (Anna), and Roy and her siblings, Mikazu, Tomie, Mitoshi, Yoko, Nobuyuki, and Nobumasa, of Japan. Grandchildren Sarah, Wilfred, Jason (Shannon), Daniel, Wendy (Jeff), and Lacey (William) Alden, and Great Grandchildren Samuel, Tabitha, Madison, Spencer, Jessica, Garrett, Gabriel and Great great grandchild Kieran.
Mutsumi was actively involved in volunteer services for many years working with her dearest friends at the (Japanese Womens Association?). She performed traditional Japanese dance with friends and family. She was a kind and caring person who never failed to recognize the good in others.
A service will be held later in May for family and friends.
