Mrs. Spencer was a close friend of my mother, Irene Fujioka. I believe they met when our families lived in Okinawa. At the time, my Dad was doing a tour in Vietnam and we lived in Okinawa. I think most of the kids in both families were under the age of 13, I can't imagine the work those two moms did keeping track of the family as their husbands moved them around the world. Between both families, there were lots of kids to play with in that little neighborhood. Even as the oldest sibling, I do not know the extend of my parent's friendship with the Spencers at that time, but the two mothers kept in touch after we moved away. Eventually, both families retired in Lakewood, blocks from each other and they reconnected, as did their kids...as much reconnecting as can be done between a houseful of girls (us) and except for Carolyn, the rest of her kids were boys. I know from talking to my sisters that we love Mutsumi. We were all extremely sad to hear of her death, but she was fortunate to have lived a very long life and to know her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her first great grandchild. Rest In Peace.
