Monroe Nordquist's Obituary
Monroe Sidney Nordquist (Swede), 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 22, at Mother Joseph Care Center in Olympia, WA. He was born on September 14, 1929 in Hoffman, MN to Sidney and Mary (Lund) Nordquist.
Monroe proudly and bravely served our country in the US Army for over 25 years. As a Combat Medic, he was a multiple-tour veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also served as Ward Master at Madigan Army Hospital in Fort Lewis, WA for many years. He earned multiple awards and decorations ¬¬throughout his service. After his retirement in 1973, he began a successful career as an Insurance Agent for Mutual of Omaha in University Place, WA.
Monroe was preceded in death by his wife and love of his life of 53 years, Abrilla E. (Cardejon) Nordquist. He is survived by his sister, Marian, sons: Norman, Michael (Ruth), Patrick (Patricia), and Jay (Sara), daughters: Monica (Jeff), Mona, & Lisa, grandchildren: Russell, Marc (Elizabeth), Adam (Cassie), Lindsey, Joshua, Melissa (Chad), Rose, Jason, Lindsey, Hailey & Lily, and great-grandchildren: Zachary, Gabriella, Harper, Aubree, Lulani, Sammie, Sonja, & Calvin. He is preceded in death also by his parents, his brother, Jerome, and his grandson, Jordan.
Monroe was an avid sports fan. Two of his favorite teams were the Minnesota Vikings and Duke Blue Devils. He could often be found at the local Steilacoom High School football and basketball games cheering loudly above the crowd. He also enjoyed golfing and gardening. But above all, he treasured spending time with his family. He was hard-working, devoted, generous, and loving, with a witty sense of humor that brought much joy to so many. He was deeply loved and will forever be missed by his family and friends.
