Mildred Mary Cook's Obituary
MILDRED MARY COOK"MILLIE"Millie passed away peacefully and gracefully at the age of 96 on September 10th surrounded by her loving family. Born to Tillie and Dail Grout on June 2, 1911 in Tacoma, WA, and spent ten years of her childhood living in an isolated area near the Hood Canal. Although she had many hardships in her life, for Millie the cup was always half full, but never half empty. This was true even though by the time she was 42, she had been widowed three times. She was a wonderful role model for all of us, and we will do our best to carry on what she has taught us: To embrace people of all colors, to help those in need without judging, and to always look forward and not dwell on what has passed. Her many interest and hobbies included bowling, ceramics, crafts of all kinds, painting, playing the organ, tying flies, fishing, (especially the streams), playing bingo and doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles while listening to Elvis music, especially his gospel songs. She was also a brownie leader, den mother, Boy Scout troop treasurer, caregiver and hospital volunteer. She loved the time she spent with her family most of all; especially all the laughter and the love that was shared. Millie is survived by daughters Lucille Owyen, Bellevue, WA; Janice Morris, Puyallup, WA; and son Cliff Cook (Joan), Gig Harbor, WA. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind three sisters: Cora Phillips, Tacoma, WA; Verde Grandfield, Upland, CA; and Dorothy Jeffries, Tacoma, WA. Preceding her in death were husbands Lloyd Hager, Michael Farr and Clifford Cook.A service will be held in the Valley Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home on Saturday, September 22 at 10 A.M, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA.
