Merrifield (Bud) Rees' Obituary
Merrifield Burdette ReesMerrifield Rees, who was known as Bud by all who knew him, was born in Enumclaw on May 13, 1928 and was the only child of Dorothea and Arthur Rees. He grew up in the small town of Snohomish, Washington at a crossroad that still bears the family name Â"ReesÂ' Corner.Â" He passed away suddenly on August 8, 2002 after a very long and prosperous life.While younger he excelled in school and was consistently one of the top students. At the same time he also enjoyed sports, particularly baseball and basketball, following them closely through the rest of his life. After High School he proudly served his country as a Marine Corps aircraft mechanic during WWII. After the War, Bud continued on with his education and obtained his bachelorÂ's degree from the University of Washington. He ultimately continued on with his education there choosing law school Â"because the line was shorter to get in.Â" After graduating from the UW Law School in 1953 Bud served in the FBI briefly before entering the private practice of law. He eventually joined Perry McCormick and Paul Hoffman in the practice of law in at the Law Offices of McCormick Hoffman in Lakewood in 1959. After time he was recognized as one of the leading attorneys in the State of Washington in the fields of real estate, land use, and business transaction law. His work and clients were very important to Bud. He enjoyed high respect in the legal and broader community in which he had friends and admirers in all walks of life. He was well known for spending many early mornings going to breakfast at Â"BursÂ" with these clients and friends and for meeting them after hours. Even more important to Bud were his children, Evan Rees and Sarah Rees. He adored his children and actively helped and encouraged them to be successful people in areas they enjoyed.He worked in the active practice until the time of his death. His family, the law and serving his wide array of clients and friends were his life. He is survived by his son and daughter.Memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2002, 10:00 am at Mountain View CemeteryÂ's Valley Chapel.
