As a struggling 2nd year law student I went law office to law office looking for summer work. Bud was the first lawyer who would talk to me. He hired me and became my boss. I clerked for Bud and Paul Hoffman for several years. I joined Bud,Paul,Perry and Kelly at daily lunches and at Bur's for breakfast. The conversations were always lively and fun. Bud was a terrific person, a very bright and creative lawyer whose abundance of knowledge was inspirational. He was a great friend to me over the years and always had a minute to talk with me about my time with their firm and current events. He was a quick wit with a dry delivery. I was so sorry to hear about Bud. I worked at McCormick Hoffman for 6 months in 1999 and he was so kind to me and assisted with a legal issue we had. I will remember Bud as my first employer and also neighbor and friend. I worked for him in the late 1960s and early 70s taking care of Evan and Sarah while I was in junior high and high school. He was a wonderful man of great strength, integrity and compassion. I will always remember his sense of humor, his dependability, and his tremendous love for his children. During my teenage years he really provided me with a sense of what a good father was like. I knew that I could always turn to him for advice if I ever had a difficult problem even in my adult years. Steve and I will both miss him very much and I wish that we had had the chance to be more connected in the past couple of years. Evan and Sarah, we still live very close here in Lakewood. I had the priviledge of getting to know Bud when he accompanied Sarah to our family barbecues and we sat and talked for hours after dinner. My husband and I felt a connection with Bud that doesn't come very often and will grieve the lost opportunity to know him more deeply.
