Thanks so much to everyone who attended the funeral, and those of you leaving kind words here. Mel was one of a kind, and honestly my best friend - not common with brothers. I know he's in a better place now, having 'happy hour' with our mom (Hap). He enjoyed his retirement so much, for howerver short it was, I never saw him happier these past few months. Years ago I attended many rooster shows with Mel including 2 flights to Arizona. Mel loved his birds.
I believe Mel, like his dad, was a man of strong moral fiber and convictions. Whats right is right whats wrong is wrong. Not enough people like that left!
In the last several years we hadnt seen too much of each other but every time we ran into each other Mels greeting was always the same. "Hey ya old hippie, whats goin on? Mel still remembered when I had hair.
How do you say goodbye to an old friend?

Mel and my dad, Harold Stickley were buddies, and also laid brick together....I remember a story my dad told me once about his and Mel's bricklaying adventures....they were building an arch, and they had a board holding the top section together until the mortar had dried. They decided oh, it's done, took the board out, and my dad thought he had killed Mel when all the bricks came tumbling down upon Mel's head....I think they shared quite a good laugh on that one!!##imported-begin##Sandy Johnson##imported-end##
