Maureen Mae Vick
January 17, 1928 - November 14, 2018
Born in Ness City, Kansas to Lucy and Lloyd Frank. In 1936, at the age of 8, she and her parents traveled to Washington, living in Centralia and in or near Tacoma ever since. She attended Jason Lee and graduated from Stadium HS in 1946. During her senior year, she worked as a secretary for the Tacoma Public Schools in the office of the Superintendent until the birth of her oldest son. She gave birth to three wonderful and caring sons, Timothy, Mark and Kelly. In 1951, she began her career in Civil Service at Fort Lewis as a secretary, retiring in 1985 as Secretary to the Commander, I Corps. She made many life-long friends, both civilian and military. In 1970, she married SGM James Vick and had 10 terrific years with him until his death in 1979. She is a past member of Theta Rho and Beta Sigma Phi.
Maureen loved watching sports and she loved to go to the casino and play 3 card poker or blackjack. She always enjoyed a good house game of Texas Holdem and that is how she got her nickname "Poker Mom".
She is preceded in death by her son, Mark, granddaughters Danielle, Tasha and Karen, and daughter-in-law Andra. She is survived by her sons Tim and Kelly (Debbie), several grandchildren, great grandchildren and her loving ex-daughter-in-law, Rose; many cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Maureen requests donations, in honor of her son Mark Murphy, be sent to: Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS), PO Box 3199, Camdenton, MO 65020.
Services will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home in the Willow Room, located at 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA 98499.
