Thanks for sending me copies of Maude's memorial service and obituary. It made me so sad I couldn't have been their to celebrate her life. I remember always respecting and admiring Great Aunt Maude. Her demeanor was so "calm, cool, and collected." I loved her sense of adventure and friendly disposition. My last real visit with her was in Napa, CA at my Sister Cindy's wedding (12 yrs. in March). I spoke with her on the phone this summer, but it wasn't near long enough. Her interest in remembering our relationship made my day; it was heartfelt to know that she still wanted to remember me. I'm sorry I missed her "day of remembrance". I'm especially sorry that I didn't get to talk to her about her life with my Gramps (this was one of my short-term goals that was a little too late:(
I'm so glad she lived a full life and touched so many lives.

Maude was a wonderful mother-in-law and grandmother to our kids. She was always cheerful and saw the optimistic side of things. She always preferred to see the good things in people and it made it easy for her to make friends with almost anyone. She had a great sense of humor and would laugh at herself, never taking herself too seriously.
Tacoma has lost one of it's greatest boosters.
We will miss you, Maude.

Dear Kathleen, Randy and Nancy,
Your mother was a wonderful woman whose ready smile I enjoyed so many Sundays while growing up in Trinity Methodists' Sunday school where she was my teacher for several years. She had the patience of Job to put up with the kids in that class who she felt responsible for week after week.. Having myself taught youths on Sundays for years as an adult I came to a full appreciation for what she was attempting to do!!
The fact that we had the same last name allowed me a kinship with her that lasted for years as I occasionally would run into her at the Mall or at a funeral of her neighbors who were also my old friends....particularly Darlene Ambrose who continues to be like a sister to me. Strong friendships were formed in the 40's and 50's on McKinley Hill which have continued and are cherished.........
I am glad your Mom was in my life at a time when I needed gentle, strong, loving female role models...she was that....a true "gentlewoman".

I'm so saddened by the death of my favorite aunt. She loved us all and demonstrated that love in so many warm and wonderful ways. Her positive attitude and wonderful sense of humor were but a few of her many assets. What fun it was to spend time with her — and what a gift it was to be loved by her.
