Mary Shizuka Bottomley
1 June 1925 - 7 July 2012
Born in Fukuoka, Japan she found and met the man of her dreams in 1953 and stayed devoted to him until her own death. Since coming to the United States she has studied the art of Sumi-e. She also attended Ft. Steilacoom Community College where she earned an Associates Degree in Arts & Humanities. A founding member of the Puget Sound Sumi Artists and a long time teacher of Tsumami-e and Japanese calligraphy, she has exhibited her art work widely in Tacoma and across the nation since 1979 and has been honored with several awards. She was an advisor to -Å"Yuho-kai-, a Japanese sumi-e and calligraphy study group. She is survived by her sister Yaeko Kawagoe and brother Tadashi Iwata of Kita-Kyushu, Japan, son Danny Bottomley stationed at Misawa Air Base Japan, two grand children, Kathryn Moore of Spring Creek, NV, and Robert Bottomley of Henrico, VA, and two great grand children. Funeral Services will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home on Friday, 13 July 2012 at 4:00PM at the Garden Chapel. Viewing and Visitation will be Thursday, 12 July 2012 from 2:00 - 9:00 PM.
