On Sunday, I received news my friend Mary Findlay passed away.
I met Mary early January 2016 as we arrived to JBLM, Washington. One of our first conversations was about her non-profit organization Suits for Service Members and how she could use some help. It did not take long before Mary and I became friends. We enjoyed each other’s company and most of all I admired her for always helping others. Mary had a long history with the Army and her selfless contribution to our service members and spouses was endless. Her mission was to help every transitioning service member with a dress to success suit. She drove to far places to suit a Veteran so he /she would be dressed for an interview.
For myself, I often wondered where she got her energy from as Mary was everywhere. Every function, fundraiser, welcome and farewell, Mary was there. She gave so much and asked for nothing in return. Knowing Mary made me wanted to be a better person. Her eyes sparkled when the conversation shifted to her grandson, Connor. Most weekends were spent with him and on Mondays she was fully energized to take care of whatever was asked of her.
Mary was a woman of faith, integrity and love. Mary was my friend. She was one of a kind and will be missed.
