When Dick Severson sold me the house next door to Marvin and Maggie Skinner, he told me that the best asset of the house was the next door neighbor. He was right! Marvin and Maggie were two of the nicest people you could meet, and were always there to lend a helping hand and share a thoughtful word.
My favorite memory of Marvin nwas a fishing trip he and I took to Sekiu. We camped in one of the resorts overlooking the straits. Marvin had a hard time sleeping with only a thin foam pad between his back and the rocky ground. He never complained, but did confess the next day that he had hardly slept, allowing him to track the passing ships out in the straits by listening to their fog horns. Tired or not, Marvin caught a lot more fish than I did! The next time we went to Sekiu we took a motorhome.
Marvin was a wonderful neighbor and a great friend. He and Maggie were there as I went through some major life experiences - marriage, birth of our two kids, etc. Marv was always there with wise, gentle advice, but only if I asked.
When Kay and I made the decision to move out of our small house next to the Skinners, and into a larger home that better fit our growing family, the toughest part was to move away from Marvin and Maggie.
We will miss you Marv!
