To the family of Marvin Vann,
How sorry I am to hear of your loss.
Mr. Vann was my band teacher at Kalles Jr. High School (in Puyallup) in the late '70's. I am now almost 40 years old and to this day have always considered him one of my favorite teachers in school. He was "cool" in his students eyes.
I don't know the circumstance why he was taken at a young age, but may he now be at peace.

As one of Marvins first students when he arrived at Kalles Jr. High in 1976, he immediatly made an impact on my appreciation of music, that continues today.
Marvin had the overwhelming challenge of starting his teaching in the middle of the school year and earning the respect of a band of typical teenagers. That, as many know can be a thankless undertaking. He was green right out of UPS, but he conquered the task and came out on top. Soon after that Marvin not only had the attention of his students, but was wellon his way to some long lasting friendships with his students and his peers.
I stayed in touch with Marvin for several years through High School and on trips home from college. Then somewhere along the way we both had our own lives to live.
I had a chance meeting with Marvin a couple of years ago at a club in the Harbor where he was playing. We talked about the "old days", comparing stories from the past, and catching up on some of the missing years.
Marvin was a great guy, a teacher, a friend, a comic and not a bad musician either! Marvin always knew a good one-liner to break the tention and relax the moment before you went on stage.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Marvin will be greatly missed, but his memories will live on in our thoughts and hearts.##imported-begin##Mike Merod##imported-end##
It was great fun working with Marvin at Saltar's Point. We had a lot of laughs together and some good conversations. My eldest son started playing saxophone in 5th grade with Marvin as his music teacher. Keep playing Marvin! You will be remembered with love.##imported-begin##mziegler##imported-end##

My family and I were so saddened to hear of Mr. Vann's passing. I worked with Marvin for several years at Saltar's Point. What a joy it was to see him everyday. He always had a smile, and a few jokes to tell. My son Erin, was one of Marvin's first band students at Saltar's. Erin enjoyed the class so much. Then when my daughter Lesley came along, she also was inspired by Marvin's talent and enjoyment of music. When I moved to Cherrydale Primary School, I also got to see Marvin when Morgan attended school there.
Our family enjoyed hearing Marvin and his band perform on numerous occasions. He will be missed by so many people. But all of our memories will live on. At the service on Saturday, just hearing so many people speak of all the good Marvin has done with music and teaching students; should make his family very proud of him. God Bless to all of you.##imported-begin##Rita, Erin and Lesley Gorman##imported-end##

Please accept my sincerest sympathy in the loss of Marvin. We have all lost a special person. I worked as an EA with Marvin at Saltar's Point Elementary School for several years until his health made it so hard for him to continue. He was missed dearly there and will continue to be missed. He always made me smile, no matter what. He always had a good joke just waiting for me, it seemed. My 2 children, Jessica, and Naaman Hinton had him as a teacher. They send their condolences also. God Bless your family!
Sincerely,
Linda Hinton##imported-begin##Linda Hinton##imported-end##
