Marjorie DeShaw's Obituary
Marjorie Lea DeShaw
It is with great sadness that the family of Marjorie Lea DeShaw (Gettmann) announces her passing on November 24, 2018, at the age of 49.
Marjorie was born on September 4, 1969, in Tacoma, Washington to Lee and Arlene Gettmann. She was raised in Tacoma and graduated from Mt. Tahoma High School in 1987. She attended Tacoma Community College and received an associates in technical arts in 1989. Shortly thereafter she began working for the Frank Russell Company in downtown Tacoma. At the age of 40, Marjorie began classes in the Central Washington University Cohort Program, and in 2014 she graduated cum laude from CWU. She taught fourth and fifth grades for three years at Camas Prairie Elementary in Bethel School District. She loved her students and touched their lives and their hearts every day.
In the spring of 1992, Marjorie and Gary DeShaw began dating. In January of 1993, Gary asked Marjorie to be his wife and they were married on July 16, 1993 in Maui, Hawaii. On February 26, 1997, their first son Samuel was born, and on July 15, 2000, their second son, Zachary, was born. Her boys were, in her words her “greatest accomplishment.” She loved them fiercely, and wanted to do anything to make them happy.
Marjorie was known and loved for many things, including her positivity, witty personality, her intelligence, and her ability to put smiles on the faces of just about everyone she came in contact with. She was often the life of the party. The list of adjectives to describe Marjorie and the impact she had on so many lives is long. She will be missed dearly by so many.
Marjorie loved her family and loved spending time with them, going on camping trips, vacations, weekend getaways with her sisters, attending holiday gatherings and birthday parties. She loved to go hiking, kayaking, going to Zumba classes and out to karaoke, playing games, doing crafts, painting rocks, quilting, sewing and especially baking!!
Marjorie is survived by her husband Gary and sons Samuel and Zachary, sisters Cindy Koch (Dean) and Denise (DeeDee) Emmett (Scott), her nephew Darren, and her three nieces, Larissa, Ciera and Emily.
She was preceded in death by her mother Arlene (Touhey) Gettmann, father Lee Gettmann and brother Lee Gettmann II.
Marjorie will be laid to rest at Mountain View Memorial Park in Lakewood, WA on Friday, December 14th.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Stahl Jr. High School, 9610 168th St Ct E, Puyallup, WA. Pastor Paul Moffett officiating.
