Marie Alys Helmer's Obituary
Marie Helmer, 93, was born December 16, 1909 in Thornton, WA and passed away December 12th , 2003 in Tacoma, WA. Marie moved to Tacoma with her family and graduated from Stadium High School and the College of Puget Sound (now Univ. of Puget Sound). In 2002 Marie received her Honorary Doctorate Degree in Education from U.P.S. During her career as a teacher, Marie taught French, Latin and English. She began her teaching in Ferndale, then went to Olympia High School before settling in Tacoma. She worked for over 20 years at Clover Park High School. Marie was preceded in death by her brother Glenn. Survivors include: Sister-in-law Betty Helmer, Green Valley, AZ and cousin Karen (Peter) Norman of Gig Harbor. Donations may be made to the University of Puget Sound or the Tacoma Art Museum. Memorial Services will be held 1:00PM Friday, January 9th at Immanuel Presbyterian Church Â- 901 N. J St., Tacoma.
