Marcella Florence Hochstein's Obituary
Marcella “Sally” Hochstein 88, of Bonney Lake Washington, passed away September 3, 2014 due to complications of a stroke. She was born in Tagus, North Dakota, on September 29, 1925. She moved with her family from North Dakota, to Washington State when she was 17, graduating from St. Leo’s High School in Tacoma. Her first job was as an office administrator at McChord Air Force base. In 1948 she married and started a family. In between raising her six children she worked at Nalley’s Food Plant, Ben Truck Parts, and Boeing where she retired as a quality assurance planner.
Sally will be remembered for her kind soul, laughter, care-giving, and cooking, especially desserts…family and friends never left her house hungry. In her younger years she enjoyed playing softball, bowling (reaching the state tournament in 1956), and dancing. She also enjoyed visiting the ocean (Westport), playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought much joy to her life. There was hardly a day at her house that wasn’t filled with sounds of laughter and squeals of children.
She is survived by her daughters, Marcia Knight, Patricia McSherry (David); sons, Gregg Hochstein (Teri), Jeff Hochstein (Kim); and 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son Vincent Hochstein and daughter Alice Zellman.
She was a wonderful mother and role model for all that knew her. Our hearts ache with sadness, and our silent tears still flow for what it means to lose her. We know that she was escorted by angels and greeted in heaven by family and friends who have been waiting to see her again. She is loved, will be missed, and never forgotten.
Memorial Services will be held Friday September 19, 2014, at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood WA 98499, in the Aspen Chapel at 2:00p.m. A grave site service will immediately follow the chapel program, followed by a reception in the Willow room at Aspen Chapel.
