My favorite story is when Aunt Sally started working. She dressed to the 10's. After she left for work, Aunt Rhea would "borrow" her clothes and was the best dressed in high school. One day, Aunt Rhea rushed home to change her clothes and found Aunt Sal in bed sick having come home early. Oh my.... I don't think Uncle Ray was out of the service, but he told us he had a temper. Lucky Aunt Rhea!
Next is how my parents met. Both Aunt Sal and Aunt Rhea would tell the grocery clerk, my mom, that their handsome brother would be coming home from the Navy. Fireworks!
We were never allowed to miss school unless sick. Uncle Vince was driving a big rig and brought Aunt Sal with him. The freeways were just getting started, and every map was not working. I was allowed to show them the way to Uncle Joe's who knew where to deliver the shipment. Wow, I thought I was in heaven sitting between them and directing them. Big day for me...
Then there is the famous slap. Tommy put his hand through the upstairs window. Lana was screaming and then Aunt Rhea. One slap settled everyone down. Scared me to death, but now I know why she did it. One very wise woman.
