Luther Griffith's Obituary
Mr. Luther Griffith, born the son of Eddie and Mattie Griffith on April 3, 1913, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2003, from complications following an unexpected coronary. A devoted husband, respected and admired patriarch, and professional soldier, his life was best defined by his undeniable love for and faithful dedication to his family, as well as conscientious loyalty and duty to country.He experienced twenty-six honorable years in service to this country, serving with distinction in the United States Army in World War II and in the Korean conflict, earning, among many awards, several Purple Hearts and a valorious Silver Star. His post-military life included employment with Boeing Aircraft and retirement from the Olympia Brewery. Though he served throughout the world, following his retirement from active duty in 1961, he relocated with family to Lakewood where he spent his remaining years happily and contentedly.LutherÂ's legacy is characterized by an indefatigable work ethic, desire for upward achievement, and ferocious pride in self, family, and country. He always gently nudged everyone towards the pursuit of self-improvement and individual potential achievement. His generosity was boundless and his special kind of humor brought joy and laughter to all with whom he interacted. Luther led a full, blessed, and respectful life. While he will be missed, his indomitable spirit will continue in perpetuity.Luther is survived by his two sons Ralph (Diana Rivera) and Don (Reema Shawa), two daughters Lalana (James Thurman) and Wynonia (Timothy Palm), seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and most importantly, by his loving wife of 55 plus years, special friend, continuous confidante, and mother of his children, Ella L. Griffith.A celebration of LutherÂ's Life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 4:00 pm, in the Garden Chapel at Mt. View Funeral Home, Tacoma with full military honors.Remembrances may be made to a favorite charity of choice.
