Lorna Daniels Ovena's Obituary
Lorna Daniels Ovena passed away August 27, 2016. She was born November 7, 1949 in the province of Nueva Ecija, Philippines. She immigrated to the United States in 1959, with her mother Rosa Daniels and father Theodore Daniels, Jr. She was a longtime resident of Pierce County, graduating from both Clover Park High School and the University of Puget Sound. Later in life she received her Master’s Degree from Chapman University, of which she was incredibly proud.
Lorna excelled at analyzing and understanding people. She used her talents professionally as a Human Resources director (most recently in State government). Among her many community projects, she was one of the founders of the Philippine American Youth Organization and created a sister city partnership between Tacoma and Davao City, Philippines (traveling to meet their mayor, future President Duterte). Lorna was also instrumental in bringing then Philippine President Ramos to Tacoma for a visit.
For the past 46 years, her husband Victorino was by her side as an always willing travel companion, dance partner and her best friend.
Lorna is preceded in death by Esperanza Panela, whom she regarded as her sister. She is survived by both her mother Rosa and father Theodore, and her husband Victorino Ovena. She will also be greatly missed by the families of her son Victor Jr. and his wife Kari, her son Vance and his wife Kellie, her niece Pamela and her husband Mark, and grandchildren: Layla, Quinton, Marques, Natalie and baby Mason.
Services for Lorna will be held on Saturday September 3, 2016 at the Mountain View Funeral Home Harden Chapel, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW Lakewood WA 98499. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00/AM to 2:00/PM. Rosary prayers will be offered at 2:00/PM prior to chapel service. Family and friends kindly invited.
