I worked with Lorna almost 40 years ago at Washington Mutual Savings Bank, at the head office in Seattle. I remember her as a charismatic, funny, energetic ball of fire whom her co-workers loved and looked up to. And, of course, we all have something wacky about us that is affectionately remembered and will always bring a smile and a laugh. For me, it was when we both worked at Washington Mutual, in the personnel department on the 4th floor at 2nd and Spring in downtown Seattle. One day, I was standing at the elevator; Lorna was literally 30 feet away from me, standing outside her office. And, she had a bunch of cherries in her hand. It was toward the end of the work day, and everybody was pretty relaxed. For some reason, I yelled to Lorna, "Come on, throw one right here, " and I pointed to my wide-open mouth. Remember, now--we were 30 feet apart. So, she looked around to make sure nobody important was watching, then wound up and threw a cherry at my head, as hard and as fast as she possibly could, which was really fast. And, it went straight into my mouth! She couldn't believe it, and neither could I. She erupted as if she had single-handedly won the World Series! It was a great, fun memory! I hadn't seen Lorna since the mid-80s, but occasionally I check the Internet to see about old schoolmates, or people I used to work with, or people I knew in some other way. Usually, those searches come up empty. But, every once in a while, I find the person. Sometimes, it's like a punch in the stomach, and that's the way it was when Lorna's name came up as an obituary. I hadn't seen her in sooooooo many years, yet this really hurt. My heart and thoughts and prayers are with her family. I know she will always be with you. That's the beauty and the magic of love. -- Jim Rupp in Seattle
