Loren Belsvik's Obituary
Loren Arnold Belsvik, went to be with the Lord on October 11, 2009, after battling cancer. Loren was born on April 23, 1947, at Tacoma General Hospital to Lawrence and Geraldine (Olson) Belsvik. As a child he lived on N. 11th Street in Tacoma with his sisters Diane and Carlene. Loren went to Jefferson Elementary School, Mason Junior School and was a 1966 graduate of Wilson High School. He joined the United States Coast Guard in 1966, and served in the reserves for 7 years. Loren worked for the automobile supply industry most of his life. His company was first called Top Auto, and then Al's Auto Supply, then Grand Auto, and now it's called Schucks-O'Reilly Auto Supply.
The Olson, Belsvik, Burmark, and Kjellsvik families took many family and church camping trips together over the years. Loren had a love for fishing, hunting, and the outdoors. This love was instilled in him by his Grandpa Olsen, however, Loren and his cousin Bob Burmark enjoyed fishing and hunting together often.
After his mother Geraldine passed away in 1969, his Dad, Lawrence married Virginia Richardson, who was another loving mom to him. This marriage expanded the family and Loren gained three more siblings: Sheri, Pam and Bob.
Loren fell in love with his wife Lois Kensrud in 1971, and they were married in 1972. They thought the world of each other and Loren kept her on a high pedestal. He wanted to spend every available moment with her. In 1977, they started their family: Renae, Brad, and Nicholas. Loren and Lois raised these three kids in a loving Christian home. They stood by each others side through many happy and sad times. They made it through life with each other, their wonderful loving family and a strong belief in Jesus Christ. In 1994, they were blessed with their first grandson Michael and then in 1997, their first granddaughter Lacie was born.
Loren continued the family traditions of camping and fishing with his wife, three kids and sometimes with his grandkids Michael and Lacie. The annual Kensrud camping trip to Ohanapecosh State Park and then to Mossy Rock in the later years, had many great memories. Along with his annual fishing trips, he also went to Ucluelet, Canada and Sitka, Alaska, where he rented a charter boat to go salmon and halibut fishing with his dad, son Nick, cousin Bob and brothers-in-law. Loren's love for the outdoors and fishing gave his family many memories that they will remember forever.
Loren was a firm Christian believer. He loved the Lord with all his heart. He attended The Assembly of God Church (now Life Center)all of his life. Loren and Lois both taught the four year old Sunday school class.
During his battle with cancer, Loren and the family leaned on God and accepted God's will. Loren said -Å"It's a WIN, WIN situation. If it's God's will to take me home then I WIN because I get to be with Jesus in my heavenly home. And if it's Gods will to heal me then I WIN because I get to be here with my family in my home on earth and share with others what God has done for me.- We all hung on to those words, and God did heal him. After receiving his 3rd Chemo treatment in May 2008, the CT scan showed no evidence of any cancer tumors. God gave him an extra year with his family to do the things he always wanted to do. He took his wife on a cruise with his sister Carlene and her husband Dave, as well as spent time with his sister Diane and her husband Bob and his cousin Bob and wife Marilyn, in Las Vegas several times over the past year. We were all able to say the things we wanted to say to him, laugh with him, hug him, kiss him and love him.
The cancer came back in May of 2009. He continued with three more treatments of Chemo Therapy and five days of Radiation for pain control but Loren wanted to stop the drugs after both treatments didn't work. He said, -Å"Only God can take this away and whatever His will is, I will accept it.- It was hard to hear this since he is going to be missed by so many, but through all of this, our family has a peace knowing that he is no longer in pain and we will see him in heaven someday.
Loren is now in heaven with his mom that he has missed for 40 years. He is fishing with his Dad, his brother-in-law Barry, Grandpa Artz and all of the Olson family, just like they used to many years ago. He is also getting a hug from his grandmother Petra and Grandfather Lars Belsvik.
