Lois and I were roommates in Germany where we both taught school in the 1950's. She was so full of life and such a joy to know and love. My condolences to her husband, "Mac" as I knew him then, and her family. May God bless her family and comfort them at this sad time. Dear Gene and Family,
I am sorry to here of your loss. It does not seem that long ago when the Shoemaker's and McKay's were neighbors in University Place. As kids growing up next door my brother and I spent so many hours playing with Tommy in both our front and back yards. Last summer I went to my 30th class reunion and drove by our old houses thinking of the great times we shared in that neighborhood. Thank you so much for being such wonderful neighbors. My prayers are with your family.
Love,
Tom Shoemaker

I was a privileged CJH student of Mrs. McKay during my 7th grade year, 1972-73. Mrs. McKay always knew how to bring out the best in all her students. After 30 years, Mrs. McKay still remembered my work in her class! I was fortunate to run into her last summer during one of her stays on FoxIsland. She continued to remain the positive person I will always remember! McKay family, please know my thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. With Sincere Sympathy, Diana##imported-begin##Diana Foster##imported-end##
Lois and I taught together at Curtis Jr/Sr High School. As I look back I remember her great laugh and smile. Memories that will last forever. My condolences go out to the family at this sad time.

Dear McKay Family,
I received a phone call from my friend Lee Fenton, last night regarding the passing of Mrs. McKay. I’m truly sorry for your loss.
I donÂ’t remember a lot about her classes (although I do remember a lot about geography), but I do remember her standing in the hallway between each class, and since I had a locker right next to her door, talking to her every day. She cheered me up when I needed cheering, and got me moving when I needed a push (I was one of the smallest 7th graders, so she also served as my bodyguard). In short, she watched over me at a time in my life when I think everyone needs someone to watch out for them, Junior High. I was extremely lucky to have her. I always enjoyed seeing her as I got older, and was fortunate to run into her a couple times as an adult. I currently have a son who is in 7th grade and I hope that many years from now he has as many good memories about his current teachers as I have about Mrs. McKay.
I think the highest praise you can give a teacher is that they not only helped make you smarter, but they made you a better person, and I definitely feel that way about her.
Thank you for allowing me to share in this time with you.
Sincerely,
Matthew Whinery
