Lisa Marie Melancon's Obituary
Lisa Marie Melancon (Veach) was born August 15, 1969 in Sacramento, CA. A brilliant student, Lisa challenged her teachers to stimulate her intellect. It was no surprise to us that she graduated early from high school with a 4.0 GPA. While raising her beautiful son Brendan as a single mother, Lisa began a better life for her little family when she started her career with the City of Tacoma in 1995. As a Customer Service Assistant in the Building & Land Use Department, Lisa fielded citizen complaints about blighted properties and coordinated the workload of Inspectors, spearheading the Tacoma Cares program. Citizens grew to love this amazing woman who followed each case with due diligence to make their community became a better place. Expressions of their appreciation poured in with calls, cards, flowers, and letters. Lisa herself volunteered countless hours of personal time to neighborhood beautification. Lisa became the first female Building Inspector for the City of Tacoma, championing the Community Based Services Program. While citizens didn't always enjoy her arrival, she usually made a friend by the time she left. People were drawn to her magnetic personality, her hospitality, and her genuine love of people. Lisa loved life and knew how to enjoy it to the fullest. To know Lisa was to love her. This is exactly what her wonderful husband Joe Melancon did. Lisa and Joe were soul mates, loving each other with every fiber of their being, and adopting everyone into their family that came their way. They traveled all over the world together and played softball on the same team. Their love will live forever.
Lisa Melancon leaves behind husband Joe Melancon, son, Brendan Wilson, mother & father Kathy & Manny Silva, brothers Vincent Silva and Christopher Veach, sister Stephani Bubnick, and countless other relatives and friends that will never be able to heal this hole in our hearts.
Lisa's memorial service will be held at The Tacoma Dome's Exhibition Hall, 2727 East D Street, on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 7 PM. There will be a public viewing of her body Tuesday - Wednesday, July 27 - 28, 2010, from 11 AM until 8 PM, at the Mountain View Funeral Home Oak Room at 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW. An account has been set up at Columbia Bank entitled "The Lisa Melancon Memorial Fund" and donations will be accepted at any branch.
