Leon Horne's Obituary
Leon Pruitt Horne was born August 20th, 1950 Donaldsonville, GA. He died peacefully in his Tacoma home from a long battle with cancer. Leon's father was a decorated WWII veteran. Leon along with his family moved to Ft. Lewis, WA in 1957. He completed elementary and junior high school at McCarver and graduated from Stadium High school in 1968. He received his BA degree from Central Washington University in 1972 and the same year began his teacher career in the Tacoma school district. Leon severed two terms as president of the Tacoma Association of Classroom Teachers. He was very active in the NEA and served several years as a state NEA director.
Leon is preceded in death by his loving mother and father. He is survived by his brother Edward L. Horne Jr. of Louisville, KY. His sister Kittrell Dixon her two children, David and Breaunna Fontenette of Spanaway, WA.
A celebration of life will be held at 4pm Wednesday , April 24th, 2013 at the Washington Education Association Headquarters, 32032 Weyerhaeuser Way South, Federal Way, WA. Visitation will be from 2pm to 9pm on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013 at the Mountain View Funeral home, Lakewood, WA.
