Lawrence Webb's Obituary
Lawrence Delbert Webb 8/29/1930 - 11/8/2011 Lawrence Delbert Webb, age 81, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, November 8th, following his 3rd heart attack. He was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Aberdeen, Washington on August 29, 1930 to Lester L. Webb and Juanita P. Webb. He attended McKinley and Central Elementary School, Jason Lee Jr. High, and Stadium High School, where he graduated in 1949. After high school he enlisted in the National Guard, serving our country from 1949 to 1959. While in the National Guard he served as a cook and was an accomplished marksman and sharpshooter. He trained to be a bookkeeper at Knapp's Business College, and held various accounting positions. In 1953 he was hired by the Tacoma News Tribune as their accountant, and at age 48 and 25 years of service he retired. He received an honorable discharge from the National Guard in 1953. Also in 1953, he met Dorothy (Dottie) Marlene Kembel and frequently would have dinner with her and her parents in their home. Larry, being a bit bashful and shy, hid behind a pillow when "Dottie" first tried to kiss him. They were married on July 1, 1955 in Tacoma, WA. Larry and Dorothy "Dottie", both being sentimentalists and romantics, would write beautiful poems to each other, and Dorothy even wrote her "Luscious Lips Larry," a song. Throughout their courtship and their married life, the continued writing heartfelt poems and notes to each other. God blessed them with three children, Kenneth in 1956, Dennis in 1959, and Karen in 1961. Larry was an avid amateur astronomer for over 30 years, and his favorite hobby/business was metal detecting, which he enjoyed for more than 40 years. Larry was a devoted husband and father, always putting the needs of his family above his own. His abundant unconditional love overflowed to each of his loved ones. His daughter Karen often told him, "I'm Daddy's little girl, and I always will be." That saying always put such a huge and warm smile on his face. Larry had such a soft spot for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his entire family. His family was his greatest joy. His family was so richly blessed and thankful to God for the amazing and priceless gift of having him in their lives. Each one of his family members was touched so warmly and gently with his undying love. His family will forever cherish and treasure the wondrous gift of having him as the head of their family. He was the 'glue' that held and kept the family together. Whenever any one of his family had a problem or concern, we could each go to him and ask for some help. He would help whenever possible, never even thinking twice. Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy of 51 years. He is survived by his loving family, daughter Karen, sons Kenneth and Dennis, 6 grandchildren, Elizabeth Gainey (Kevin), Christopher Hirn, Rebecca Burningham, Michael Webb, Anna Webb, and Matthew Webb, 6 great-grandchildren, Reily (11), Caitlyn (10), Ashley (9), Issac (7), Courtney (8), Cameron (6), and two more on their way, as well as numerous other family members and friends.
